Damien’s holdings which make up the Domaine’s Pouilly-Fuissé, come from Vers Chânes in Fuissé which is at the very top of the slope. In days gone by – or in more challenging vintages, the grapes struggled to ripen fully. However, due to the impact of global warming on the site, the wine has the typical power, weight and elegance expected of top Pouilly-Fuissé. On the nose there is pear, cooked apple and candied pineapple, alongside a warming spice and a delicate floral note. Planted in 1976, the near 50-year-old vines produce grapes of remarkable concentration. On the palate the wine is broad, rich and structured with more stewed apple, peach and apricot, touches of honey, wax, baked cereal and then a hint of toffee and hazelnut to finish.
