Château Laulan, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux 2018 Magnum
Fresh and juicy, Merlot dominated Claret from a small Bordeaux satellite just 10km from the town and the AOC of Saint-Émilion. 16/20 (GV) – jancisrobinson.com

At just 525 hectares, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux is one of the smallest AOCs in the region and one where real value can be sought. The team at Laulan are in the process of converting their 11.4 hectares of vines to organic viticulture, and this desire for quality and sustainability can easily be seen in the resulting wine. It is packed with soft red berry fruits, violets, and a touch of tobacco leaf. The wine spends 18 months in raw concrete tanks ahead of bottling, allowing micro-oxygenation to soften the tannins which produces a well-integrated and lasting structure.
