This complex, Californian blend is the jewel in the Crown of Brown Estate, where it all began, and the 2022 is ‘Vintage no.18’ for the estate. ‘Chaos Theory’ began life as a single vintage curio, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, but with growing appetite, was produced in almost consecutive vintages. Since its initial inception, it has morphed into a vintage specific blend, to showcase the qualities and characteristics of the growing season and harvest. This 2022, then, is a blend of Cabernet Franc, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Zinfandel, 13% Merlot and 8% Barbera, all sustainably farmed, from the Sonoma Valley. The wines spends around eight months in high quality French Oak, 30% of which is new, to add breadth, depth, spice, toast and vanilla. The palate, which is full bodied with a juicy, creamy mouthfeel and supple tannins, is brimming with Maraschino cherry, red liquorice, rose water, chamomile blossom, Italian leather, and creme de cassis followed by cardamom, clove, cinnamon, fresh vanilla, and a touch of graphite. It is powerful now, but will age gracefully and easily for another 10 years +.
