The vineyards of Aloxe-Corton lie on flinty, limestone-rich red soils, high in potassium and phosphorous, which drive vine growth. The deep soils of the appellation produce vigorous, full-bodied Pinot Noir, and this example is deep and dark in colour. As is typical of the wines, this is a more robust style of Pinot Noir, with density and weight on the palate, and redcurrant and red cherry, dark cherry, blackberry and black plum flavours. In youth the tannins are firm but fine, not dominating the palate but giving apparelling structure. In time, delicious notes of mushroom, earth and woody spices will develop to complement the complex fruit profile, and which are already hinted at on the mid-palate. The finish is rich, but with a persistent, lasting energy and freshness.
