Domaine Chêne Crémant de Bourgogne 2023
A textural, traditional-method Crémant made entirely from Chardonnay, combining fresh green fruit with baked apple, whipped cream and delicate toasty notes.
£24.49
Due in: Crémant is quite rightly recognised as an excellent-value alternative to Champagne. Made using the traditional method, with its second fermentation taking place in bottle, and aged for a minimum of 12 months, Crémant de Bourgogne offers a fully sparkling wine with considerable complexity, at a fraction of Champagne’s price. With greater freedom to explore regionally specific grape varieties, there is also more scope for experimentation, though Chardonnay often does much of the heavy lifting. Here, it accounts for 100% of the blend, producing a textural sparkling wine with fresh green fruit alongside baked apple, whipped cream and toasty notes. All the secondary interest is handled with judicious care by Cédric, giving us a perfect aperitif, great for parties, toasts or mackerel served with horseradish and Melba toast, for example.
