Lodi’s climate and soil is well suited for the production of Petite Sirah, which is why it has flourished here. Careful head-training of the vines, pruning, and bunch thinning ensures that the perfect ripeness of fruit is achieved. To maximise the extraction of the generous flavours of Petite Sirah, the winery uses rotary fermentation, which ensures that the fermenting juice is constantly in contact with the skins and pulp. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is then transferred to largely used, French and American oak barrels (15% new) allowing time to settle and integrate the complex flavours of the grape, round out the tannins, and add a touch of oak spice.
This wine is an intense, inky black colour and, on the nose, there are immediately wild blackberries, boysenberries, blueberries and dark plums. The palate is silky and seductive, filled with bright blueberries, fleshy ripe plums, blackberries and dark chocolate. It has perfectly ripe, mouth filling tannins and the finish is soft and lingering, with more dark fruits and a delicate lick of oak spices.
