The immediate intensity of the fruit in this wine comes from the low yielding, 120-year-old Zinfandel vines. Fermented on the skins to dryness, the grapes were pressed and then placed into a mixture of French and American oak barrels (15% new wood), before being aged for twenty four months. Ageing in this way enabled the winery to maintain freshness and character, and to maximise the concentration of the fruit. It is clear that the careful use of oak here, complements the qualities of the grape.

The nose is classically Zinfandel, with aromas of spiced blackberry, plum, dried cherry and baking spices. On the palate, it is rich, luscious and juicy, with tart blackcurrants and freshly baked blackberry pie. This is followed by ripe black cherry, black liquorice, black plum and a crack of black pepper, then hints of mocha and fresh tobacco. Succulent, mouth-coating tannins, and juicy acidity finish perfectly.
