Zambartas Promara 2021
A rare find, as Promara represents less than 1% plantings in Cyprus. This has green, citrus and stone fruit flavours with a distinct note of almond to finish.
£22.49
Promara is a long forgotten white grape variety indigenous to Cyprus, representing less than 1% of the total vineyard area in the country. While it is the first variety to ripen every year, its thick skins do not yield much juice – one primary reason for its decline in plantings, with higher-yielding varieties replacing it. It produces medium bodied wines while retaining good levels of acidity.
Zambartas are one of the few wineries championing the variety despite the challenges it presents, and their Promara is quite broad and deeply complex with citrus fruit and stone fruit flavours. There is an appealing weight on the palate, and the wine finishes with a touch of honey and lavender, as well as a distinctly attractive almond note. This would be excellent with monkfish, asparagus and a beurre blanc, aubergine moussaka, or grilled chicken.
