Château Filhot is considered to be among the very finest estates in Sauternes, with its majestic post-French Revolution architecture – a stunning sight to behold. Its rarified beauty is mirrored in the top wine of the estate, which is uniformly produced from a combination of rigorously hand-selected Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The misty conditions created by the proximity of the Garonne river are ideal for the development of Botrytis, which is key to the production of top-quality Sauternes.
The 2015 is now a light copper in appearance, and there are delicate peach and orange aromas on the nose, along with light honey and then caramelised pineapple. The palate is still fresh and juicy, with spiced pineapple, marmalade, guava and mango on the mid-palate, and then finishing with vanilla pod, cinnamon, a touch of clove, and the oh-so-important and wonderfully refreshing acidity of well-balanced Sauternes, which begs another glass.
