Owned by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Domaine de Baronarques sits at a climatic crossroads between the Atlantic and the Pyrenees, located near the revitalised region of Limoux. This domaine has gone from strength-to-strength since the stellar vintage of 2003, the same year the ‘Limoux’ appellation was created. This is a hugely impressive Chardonnay from the limestone-rich soils specific to the vineyards within the demarcated region, and the 2016 Grand Vin Blanc is akin to a top-quality Meursault – rich and almost decadent. It is buttery and toasty up front, but with lots of plump pear and juicy melon fruit. Medium-bodied on the palate, it is intense, concentrated and long, finishing with bright citrus and lingering notes of straw, bruised apple, toast and pencil shavings.
