The 60 hectare Le Filigare estate, of which around 30 hectares is committed to agriculture with olive groves among the vineyard slopes, consists of two hamlets: Le Filigare and Le Macine, between San Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti. This wine is a true Gran Selezione, made from 100% Sangiovese which spends 30 months in large format, old oak barrels, and showing true Gran Selezione substance and class. It is a bright, shimmering ruby red in the glass, while on the nose there is dark cherry and an appealing light geranium note, alongside pomegranate and grapefruit. It is still youthful, with succulent, sour red fruits on the palate, and a touch of blackberry. There is a refreshing mineral core, and then a sweet smokey spice, with incense and leather hinting. The tannins are still firm, but sweet and ripe; the wine is not one of enormous size, density and scale, but rather refined, vibrant and elegant throughout, finishing with a hint of lavender, then mocha and graphite. It will age very gracefully over the next 15 years or so, or can be decanted now and enjoyed with aplomb!
