The 60-hectare Le Filigare estate, of which around 30 hectares are under vine and olive groves, lies between San Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti, and comprises two hamlets: Le Filigare and Le Macine. This is a true Gran Selezione, made from 100% Sangiovese and aged for 30 months in large, seasoned oak casks, combining depth with finesse. Bright ruby red in the glass, it opens with dark cherry, pomegranate, and a lifted note of geranium, with a subtle hint of grapefruit. Still youthful, the palate shows succulent, sour red fruits alongside a touch of blackberry. A fresh mineral thread runs through the wine, complemented by sweet, smoky spice, incense, and leather. The tannins remain firm yet ripe, supporting a style that favours refinement and vibrancy over sheer scale. The finish is long and nuanced, with hints of lavender, mocha, and graphite. Approachable now with a little time in a decanter, it will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years — though it’s already hard to resist.
