Peirano ‘Six Clones’ Merlot 2021

The unique character of this Merlot comes from the six different clones of Merlot grown on the estate. These include two rare French clones, and a very rare Italian clone; Peirano Estate Winery was the first commercial winery to grow and produce wine from these rare Merlot clones. The grapes are all handpicked, fermented to dryness, pressed and settled, before being moved into barrels. The wine is then aged in French and American oak barrels, only 15% of which are new.

This is a modern style of Merlot, juicy and full-bodied, with sweet aromas of maraschino cherry and black raspberry on the nose. The palate is filled with lots of delicately spiced fruit, plum compote and dark cherry, finishing with a lingering hint of cinnamon and clove. Soft, voluptuous red fruit tannins and bright acidity leave a pleasing, long lasting freshness.
