The grapes for this ‘Red Slate’ Riesling come from the Erdener Treppchen vineyard (with 10% from Kinheimer Hubertuslay), from vines 30+ years old. This gives incredible concentration and a wonderful balance of softer but persistent acidity, as well as a slightly rounder mouthfeel. The wine spends four month in tank (mostly stainless steel, but one third is raised in 1000-litre old oak fuder) to integrate the palate. The nose is full of intense floral aromas, a delicate spice, and crisp, juicy red apple notes. The palate is incredibly clean, but well rounded and mouth filling, with more red apple, a hint of conference pear, flint, orange blossom, damson, rosemary and sweet spice.
