Ürziger Würzgarten loosely translates to ‘the Spice Garden of Ürzig’, and should give an idea of the profile and style of the wines produced here. The vineyard of ‘in der Kranklei’ is situated on the sheer (80% gradient!), imposing rock ‘Grand Lei’ and is considered the premier spot of the site. This aspect gives the Riesling grapes incredible exposure to plenty of sunlight for the long, slow accumulation of sugars, and the results are magnificent. The wine is clean and polished, with lots of ripe, juicy, mouthwatering fruit. It has a firm grip and dense structure. There is a delicious hint of dried fruit and rhubarb, alongside peach, apricot, crystallised pineapple, honey and honey blossom, with a vibrant, lively and persistent acidity throughout.
